Tips for Beginning Your Workout Routine
So it’s been a while since you’ve worked out, but you’ve made the commitment. You know diet pills and appetite suppressants alone are not going to do the work for you, so dust off those sneakers, and check out some of the expert’s best advice to get you started on the path to your ideal body.
- Find an enjoyable workout. If you dislike the workout you plan to do, it is more likely that you will give less effort or skip it all together.
- Start slow. This advice is easy at first, but is even more important after you’ve been working out for just a few days. Remember that results will come in time and your health is most important, so work into your routine gradually over the course of several weeks.
- Schedule your workout. If you schedule your workout, you will never fail to “find the time” to do it. Whether at a gym or at home, make sure you carve out at least 30 minutes a day for physical activity. Aim for 60 minutes per day.
- Take a class. Not only does it hold you to a committed schedule, many find classes enjoyable because you’re surrounded by others working toward the same goals as you and you can meet some new people.
- Drink water. It may seem easy to remember, but all too often, those out of practice experience lack of hydration. Remember to drink water even if you don’t feel thirsty, and monitor how much you are sweating, as a lack of sweat may indicate a need for water.
- Make goals. Your weight loss goals will come if you make a point to tell yourself how many times or how many minutes each week or each day you commit to working out. Reward yourself when you meet them with a movie, new shirt, or some other non-food reward for meeting them.
- Get a workout buddy. Holding yourself accountable may sometimes be difficult, so make yourself accountable to a friend who wants to join you. If you can’t find a workout partner, just telling someone about your weight loss goals can have a similar effect, as that person will be able to help you along the way.
